Coming out on top was Aldi. Their 2020 campaign has received a whopping 7,805,327 views since it was uploaded to YouTube on 6th November 2020. The advert revolves around their well-loved character, Kevin the Carrot, who battles the cold as he tries to get home in time for Christmas. The shop also comes in third with 3,129,499 views on their 2021 clip. Again, it follows Kevin, but this time in the story of A Christmas Carol.
Other adverts in the top 10 include Sainsbury’s, with their 2019, 2020, and 2021 ones ranking at second with 6,724,825 views, fourth with 2,818,950 views, and tenth with 860,046 views, respectively.
M&S tied with Sainsbury with three festive releases, from 2020, 2021 and 2019 respectively. They fall within the top 10, in fifth with 1,922,362 views, sixth with 1,907,170 views, and ninth with 906,998 views.
Asda finished in the top 10 at seven and eight. Their 2024 and 2021 adverts were viewed 1,172,071 and 983,072 times respectively.

The bottom of the list features Waitrose, Lidl, and Tesco. Lidl appears the most, with spots at 42, 44, and 47. They received 3,598, 2,551, and 259 views for their 2021, 2020, and 2019 adverts, respectively.
Waitrose’s 2021 and 2022 Christmas clips make 43 and 45 with 2,800 and 2,278 people watching them respectively. Tesco also appears at 46 with its 2022 release, receiving 1,179 views.
Speaking on the findings, Marc Porcar, CEO of QR Code Generator said: “With supermarkets not consistently uploading their festive ads to YouTube every year, it’s understandable why the viewing figures for ads released on unofficial YouTube channels are so low.
“This is a shame, really, as Christmas ads have become such a staple within British culture – seeing who has the best each year is always fun. However, it could be a sign that the public doesn’t hold it to as much importance as they once did, so retailers don’t see the value in uploading their campaigns.
“This is why Sainsbury’s being in the top 10 isn’t surprising. They have consistently uploaded ads on YouTube since the early 2010s, gaining millions of views and buzz among viewers, whereas retailers like ASDA and Tesco have uploaded sporadically over the years.”
