Tunbridge Wells Hospital First To Introduce New Weight Loss Treatment To Kent
Patients in Kent needing weight loss surgery can now access a new treatment which leaves no scars, with Nuffield Health Tunbridge Wells Hospital becoming the first hospital in Kent to introduce Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG).

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) is a minimally invasive procedure in which the stomach is reshaped internally using an endoscope, eliminating the need for external incisions. Unlike traditional laparoscopic procedures, such as sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), ESG does not remove any part of the stomach.
Instead, the procedure involves stitching the internal lining of the stomach to create a smaller, tubular shape. This scarless procedure offers significant advantages, including reduced recovery time, minimal visible scarring, and a safer, less invasive approach compared to traditional surgery.
The procedure was approved by NICE earlier this year and is recognised as an effective and safe intervention for weight loss. On average, patients can expect to lose 45-60% of their excess weight after undergoing ESG.
