Cycling offers the perfect opportunity to experience Britain’s ever-changing landscape, each season revealing something new. Seeking a springtime escape with blooming flowers, a summer adventure under the sun, or the tranquil beauty of autumn and winter? There’s always a route waiting for you.

Where to go in spring?

Spring brings with it a vibrant explosion of life, making it one of the most beautiful times to cycle through our countryside. The days are growing longer, the temperatures are more comfortable, and the scenery is bursting with colour. If you’re looking for a relaxed and scenic ride, the Cotswold Hills Loop is a perfect place to start. This 14-mile route offers gentle climbs through picturesque villages and lush, green fields that come alive with spring blooms. The soft pinks, purples and yellows of wildflowers dot the landscape, making this a photographer’s dream. The area’s honey-coloured stone cottages and rolling hills only add to its charm. It’s also the perfect place for a cycling holiday in the UK, if you’re looking for something more extensive.

For those seeking a more organised experience, consider taking part in the Cambridgeshire Classic Sportive. Scheduled for early March, this event includes various routes that range from gentle to moderate difficulty. The event offers cyclists the chance to enjoy the peaceful countryside while pushing their limits.

Where to go in summer?

Longer days and warmer weather mean you have plenty of time to take on more challenging adventures. The Lake District Circuit, a 34-mile route around Lake Vrynwy, is a must for cyclists who enjoy both scenic views and a bit of a challenge. It features a two-mile climb up Bwlch Mountain, but the effort is well worth it. As you ride, you'll be treated to stunning views of tranquil lakes and rolling hills.

For those looking for a more festive cycling experience, the Jurassic Classic Sportive, held every summer, is an excellent choice.

Where to go in autumn?

As autumn settles in, the landscape shifts to hues of gold, red and orange, creating the perfect backdrop. The cooler air makes for a more comfortable ride, especially for those who enjoy a bit of fresh crispness while pedalling. The Galloway Forest Gravel Trail, in Scotland, is a great option for gravel bike enthusiasts. Winding through the Galloway Forest Park, it’s perfect for those who want to experience rugged terrain and stunning natural beauty. The colours of the leaves provide a gorgeous spectacle, especially in late October.

For something a little closer to home, the Peak District Loop offers moderate cycling that takes you through some of the most beautiful parts of the area. The charming villages and dramatic landscapes make it the ideal route for those looking to escape the busy city for a peaceful ride in nature.

Where to go in winter?

Winter cycling has its own appeal, especially for those who enjoy a quieter atmosphere. While the colder months might deter some of us, there’s something magical about riding through cities and countryside during the winter season. Edinburgh’s City Circuit, a 17-mile route around Scotland’s capital, is a perfect winter route. The shorter length makes it suitable for the colder months, while the stunning views of Edinburgh Castle and the festive decorations in the city centre together create something simply stunning.

For a longer ride, the London to Brighton route offers an exciting challenge. Although many cyclists tackle it during charity events, the route is a classic for winter cycling.
