Quarter Of Brits Have ‘Never Revealed This Secret To Their Partner’
One in 10 married couples claim they don’t truly know their partner.

Right now, almost a third (28%) of Brits know their partner would rather stay in than go out on Valentine’s Day, but aside from the one-day romantic celebration – how well do people really know their partners?
The data, taken from a new study, by greetings card marketplace thortful, explores the inner secrets of relationships, revealing the things people claim to know about their partners, as well as the secrets they have never shared themselves.
Although 37% claim they feel completely happy in their relationships and know everything about their other half, 13% wish their partner opened up more, prompting thortful to create a guide on the right questions to ask a partner, that go way beyond knowing their birthday or favourite film.
From dating histories, to fantasies, the amount of people on their magic number list, deepest secrets and everything in between – how well do you really know your partner?
What do people claim to know about their partners?
Starting with the basics, the most popular attributes people claim to know about their partners include their hobbies, interests and birthday (64%), as well as their favourite food and drink (62%), and their career aspirations (51%).
However, just one in 10 (10%) claim they know their partner’s party trick, only 11% are aware of their go-to karaoke song, just 18% know their other half’s most embarrassing moment and only 24% know their favourite memory with their partner. On a deeper level, Brits aren’t aware how their partners feel about the following:
- How much they value your relationship (53%)
- How they spend their time when their partner isn’t there (56%)
- Whether they want children (65%)
- Whether they want to get married or not (70%)

What have Brits never revealed to their partners?
When asked, 17% of those in a long-term relationship claim they know their partner very well, compared to 6% in a new relationship and 32% of those who are married. 37% even say they are completely happy with their partner and feel that they know everything about each other. But could they be hiding something?
Almost a quarter (24%) of Brits claim they have never shared their dating history with their partner, or their fantasies (15%), or their magic number (14%). Deepest secrets (13%) are also kept under wraps, as well as things that bother people about their partners (9%) and even how cringey other halves are on social media (3%). See the full list below:

In terms of demographic splits, men (28%) are less likely to share their dating history with a new partner than women (20%), whilst women are more likely to tell white lies (15%) than men (11%). 16% of those aged 65+ claim their partner doesn’t know their deepest secret, the highest out of all age groups, whilst younger people (18-24) are less likely to share their dating history (33%) or magic number (30%), the highest percentages out of all age groups.
