Summer Fun For All The Family At Royal Victoria Place
During the summer school holiday period this year Royal Victoria Place in Tunbridge Wells will be holding six weeks of family activities – starting on Monday 22nd July and ending on 28th August.
The Kent shopping centre will be holding activities every Monday and Wednesday during this six-week period and here we take a look at the programme on offer...
22nd & 24th July: Children’s Shows with “Once Upon a Wish Events”
- Monday 22nd July – “Neverland Nonsense” A Fairytale storybook themed show with Tink, Peter and Pirate. Event times: 10am, 11.15am, 1pm, 2.15pm & 3.30pm.
- Wednesday 24th July – “POW ZAP BOOM” A Superhero themed show with the Wonderhero, Spider and The American Captain. Event times: 10am, 11.15am, 1pm, 2.15pm & 3.30pm.

29th & 31st July: Art workshops
Monday 29th July – A glass mural making workshop with local artist Claudia Wiegand where you will get to decorate 12cm diameter glass circles that will go towards creating a glass mural to be on permanent display in Royal Victoria Place. There will be five workshops during the day with a maximum of 7 participants per workshop. Session times: 10am, 11.15am, 1pm, 2.15pm & 3.30pm. You must book this event: contact customerservice@royalvictoriaplace.com- Wednesday 31st July – An art workshop with local artist Jacque Rickard: 'Birds Flying High', drawing and stencil printing. Inspired by a painting created by local artist Jacque Rickard, visitors will design their own A4 image using pencils and pens to create a colourful base image, and then use printing ink on a stencil to create a beautiful printed top layer. Jacque will take you through the process step by step, with all equipment and materials provided so visitors of all ages can take part. You will get to try a unique, fun and easy technique with everyone creating their own mini masterpiece to take with them! There will be five workshops during the day with a maximum of 10 participants per workshop. Session times: 10am, 11.15am, 1pm, 2.15pm & 3.30pm. 5th & 7th August: Storytelling
- Monday 5th August – Storytime for toddlers. Go along for a storytime session with local author and book publisher, Mama Makes Books, who will be reading and sharing books that are perfect for toddlers. Event times: 10am, 11.15am, 1pm, 2.15pm & 3.30pm.
- Wednesday 7th August – Storytelling with local author and artist, Keith Siddle – Join Keith whilst he reads from his books, shares his illustrations and does a “how to draw” on his little Angelica fish character. Event times: 10am, 11.15am, 1pm, 2.15pm & 3.30pm.
12th & 14th August: Children’s Shows with Once Upon A Wish Events
- Monday 12th August – “Princess versus Superheroes” Step into a magical world where two worlds collide! Who will be crowned victorious? Will pixie dust powers reunite both worlds and teach a valuable lesson? With audience participation and fun-a-plenty this supertastic session is the perfect summer treat for all of the family. Event times: 10am, 11.15am, 1pm, 2.15pm & 3.30pm.
- Wednesday 14th August – “Cinders Lost Glove” – A fairytale-themed show with The Charming Prince, Beauty and Cinders. Event times: 10am, 11.15am, 1pm, 2.15pm & 3.30pm.

19th & 21st August: Art workshops

26th & 28th August: Storytelling
- Monday 26th August – Storytime for 5 to 8s. Local children’s author and publisher Mama Makes Books will be sharing some fascinating non-fiction and captivating picture books in this storytime for primary children. Event times: 10am, 11.15am, 1pm, 2.15pm & 3.30pm.
- Wednesday 28th August – Storytelling with local author Alex Brooks. A fun-filled day of storytelling, where Alex will be reading her own books and some favourites. This will be followed by Q&A session and book signing. Plus there will be giveaways of stickers and activities sheets. Event times: 10am, 11.15am, 1pm, 2.15pm & 3.30pm.
