Kent Has One Of The Worst Relationships With Technology
South East residents, including those in Kent, have some of the worst relationships with the internet in the UK, despite spending less time on their screens than the rest of the country.

New data, compiled by ultrafast broadband provider, Trooli, has revealed that residents have the second worst relationship with technology of anywhere in the UK.
Just two-thirds (63%) of locals agree they are happy with how much time they spend online, whilst only 62% believe they have a healthy relationship with tech.
This is despite the fact that residents in the South East have some of the lowest screentime, spending just 5 hours and 20 minutes online every day – almost half an hour less than the national average.
The research suggests that higher screentime doesn’t necessarily lead to worse relationships with technology. In fact, it’s Londoners, who clock up the highest screentime in the country – almost seven hours a day – who feel the most content with the time they spend online.

Screentime per day across the UK:
- London – 6 hours 44 minutes
- North West – 5 hours 57 minutes
- West Midlands – 5 hours 54 minutes
- Yorkshire & the Humber – 5 hours 52 minutes
- North East – 5 hours 43 minutes
- East Midlands – 5 hours 42 minutes
- Scotland – 5 hours 41 minutes
- Wales – 5 hours 38 minutes
- South West – 5 hours 29 minutes
- South East – 5 hours 20 minutes
- East of England – 5 hours 2 minutes
- Northern Ireland – 4 hours 57 minutes
Andy Conibere, CEO of Trooli, states: “It’s often assumed that those who spend more time online are at a higher risk of developing a poor relationship with technology. But our research indicates that this isn’t always the case.

“Instead, what’s most important is how we use technology, ensuring it works to enhance our lives, rather than take away from it. Maintaining a positive relationship with your devices doesn’t have to mean cutting down your screentime – simple steps like taking regular breaks and making sure your set up is optimised for your needs go a long way.”
