SMART GARDEN: The future of gardening

Technological innovation, advances in construction materials, and the integration of art and design have led to the creation of the ‘Smart Home Garden’ in Kent.

This first show garden of its kind in Europe has won international awards and suggests how many future gardens will connect and evolve. It was designed by RHS Chelsea medallist, Laura Anstiss, in collaboration with Potters Home Digital, Tenterden.

Like many contemporary garden designs, it features attractive, practical planting for year-long interest. Colours used in the garden reference surrounding ancient listed buildings. It also emulates the best in RHS Chelsea show gardens through subdivision into smaller areas of interest, featuring award-winning sculptures by Louise Giblin in each.

To enhance and protect the garden and Louise’s sculptures, the Smart Home Garden team have introduced water, music, lighting, other Smart and security features that can be controlled via an App.

Building on this solid design framework, is a total rethink of how exterior spaces can improve our quality of living. The inclusion of an extraordinary outdoor cinema, party space/dance floor, a luxurious Garden Getaway office cabin, garden kitchen, and the latest in hard landscaping materials shows how outdoor spaces can be cleverly adapted for leisure as well as serious career purposes.

The Smart Home Garden team have been overwhelmed by the response to the project and receiving several international awards. They believe the best in future design will focus on creating a personal, stimulating space that ‘plays with your senses, heightens your emotions, and enhances your lifestyle’.
